Reflection #4

This week, we continued our topic on the age of Christian Roman empire. I have learned about the councils that were made in order to correct the doctrines of the churches. And there is one particular council that I liked, the council of Nicea. I have learned that the council pf Nicea really made a big change in Christianity. Because in there, the person, divinity, nature, and humanity of Christ had been affirmed. In that, people became united in their belief about Christ and the council itself made a great change. Glory be to God who led Constantine to call for that council. There were still a lot of council that has been made and they all resulted into something good. They all countered the wrong teachings of some people who began to interpret the word of God in the wrong way.
From that lesson, I have understood that the church did not remain silent about the doctrinal controversies that they were facing during those times. It was a time when there was still a union between the church and state, and the influence of the emperor himself, Constantine, became a big factor for what had happened. Concerning the Bible, its infallibility and authority had once again been manifested in this particular event in the history. And it was such an event that made the Bible even more authoritative than any books that men have written.

In application, I need to study more about Church history so that I would be able to understand what really happened in the past that made Christianity what it is today. I need to study more about it so that I would be able to encourage others to be firm in their belief by trusting God and His word, the Bible. It would also be a practice for me to continue on reading the word of God so that I would know more about Him and be able to share what I have learned to others.
