Reflection #3

This week, we've been talking about the age of Christian Roman empire. I have learned about the many emperors who have risen and fallen during that time. One particular emperor was Constantine. He was known as a Christian emperor. But I don't know if that was really true. But he claimed to be a Christian himself.  I have also learned that a lot of Christians were persecuted during those times, and that the persecutions had positive effects and negative effects. The positive effects were that it resulted to the purification of the church. It caused the spread of the gospel and the canonization of the scripture. It also provided a defense for the faith and that the blood of the martyrs became the seed of the church. The negative effects were that a lot of people got dead and then came the problem of the lapse. The martyrdom had been emphasized by many and a lack of ability for many Christian writers to leave a literary legacy because there were no means of publication during those times. It was not really a good time for most of the Christians. Though it resulted into something good.
Thinking about the Christians situation before, it brought me to think about what if I was there at that time? would I endure like most of them? will I be willing to die for what I believed in? These were just some of the questions that crossed my mind upon pondering to the events in the history. But in that, I am encourage to be firm to what I believed in. I became more convinced that what I believed in is really true, knowing that a lot of people had already died for it. It also brought me to be more convinced of the truthfulness of the word of God. Indeed, Christ said that we will experience sufferings and hardships because of him. But in that I am glad because I am not alone in this.
In this, I will spend more time in studying the scriptures and in communicating with God. Persecution has not ended yet because it is still happening in some of the countries today. Especially for those Christians who are residing in a Muslim community. It would be a great opportunity to pray for my brothers and sisters in Christ that they will endure and hold firm to what they believed in. I also am thankful that I have not experienced that in here. I think everyone should be thankful for that, that we don't have those kind of people who will persecute us or kill us due to our belief.
